Ice Cream in a Bag… a fun treat for big and little kids!
Make the ice cream with just a few ingredients, three Freezer Bags, and some shake-it-up fun!

Here’s the Recipe for “A Blueberry Summer” Ice Cream
Measure and Mix the ingredients in a bowl.
2 cups Whole Milk
(optionally use half-and-half Cream and add a spoonful of Greek Yogurt too)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. Honey
1/4 cup frozen blueberries. (Crush them slightly)
You can add any other flavoring or frozen fruit you like to plain vanilla. A crushed chocolate bar is good too.
Pour the mixture into a freezer bag. (We’ll call it the inside bag)
Inside Bag - Double Bag it and seal it tightly before placing it in the Outer bag to avoid any leakage.
Add these to the Outer Bag
4 cups of ice cubes
1/3 cup kosher salt (or ice cream salt)
Method
Close the inner bag well, squeezing as much air out of it as possible. Double bag it and again remove as much air as possible and seal. Now place it in the Outer Bag containing the ice cubes and salt. Close the outer bag while again removing as much air as possible.
Have the children shake the bag for about 15 minutes. Two can take turns shaking. Or you can make a batch for each child to make and eat.
If the bag gets too cold to shake… let the freezer take over for a while.
Make sure when you remove the inner bag to wash the outside off with cold water before you open it to avoid mixing any salt into the ice cream.
Put it into a bowl, or eat it right out of the bag!
Or is it an Ice Milk Treat?
In fact, another way to make this simple treat is to skip the salt and other bags altogether and just place it in the freezer. Take it out and shake or squeeze the bag a few times. Once frozen, it will melt easily and let you shave a bit off at a time. Our kiddies love the whole milk version. Having a spoonful is a healthy treat at any time.
So you need a diversion to a scraped knee or something. Just say, “Would a spoonful of ice cream make it better?” Often that gets rid of the tears right away, and you can focus on the more important issue of dealing with the scrape or whatever.
Slurp It Up
Slurp, slurp, this ain’t no meme;
I don’t mean maybe.
Get Ready,
Get Set,
Don’t just Dream,
Shake it up, Baby
Let’s go make some Ice Cream!
Here’s hoping you have a great August.
