Spring has arrived, and so has garden cleanup time. One of my favorite times of the year is the start of gardening season.

It is a lot of work, but here are the ten best benefits of a Garden Hour.
You get to check out all the spring flowers coming up: lawn violets, hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips.
You get time in the sunshine. Look up and see the buds on the trees against the clear blue sky. Feel the warm sun on your face.
You breathe fresh air.
You exercise without even knowing it.
The garden game of pick-up sticks thrown down by winter winds makes you bend, squat, and stretch.
You meet your neighbors and have a chat about the weather. “Beautiful sunny day today…”
You make new friends in your community when you volunteer for a street cleanup day.
It is as good or better than just eating an apple a day.
It gives your eyes a reality rest from computer screens.
Best of all, you get to prepare your yard, garden, or windowsill for some color and greenery that will keep you enjoying it long into fall.
Some of you will have had an untimely snowfall in your area similar to what we experienced, but now that April is half done, the cold seems to be giving way to warm sunshine.
There are still a few days of rain, but as the familiar rhyme chimed by school children goes,
“April showers bring May flowers.”
This will bring a profusion of more flowers in the neighborhood to photograph and admire… beginning one of my next favorite pastimes: Flower Hunting.
Here’s wishing you some beautiful Garden Hours of your own, whether in your own spot, park, or neighborhood.
All the best,
Trina
